History

As long ago as 1955 the International Air Transport Association (I.A.T.A.) made it known, through bulletins issued by its Technical Committee, that it was opposed to the continuance of airworthiness control by national airworthiness authorities. Instead IATA preferred to follow a policy of eliminating the control of airworthiness by reducing the activities of airworthiness authorities to limited surveillance and abolishing the licensing of aircraft engineers.

With aviation safety largely dependent upon the standards to which aircraft maintenance is performed and being the most commonly used transportation system around the world, and to ensure that such standards are maintained at an acceptably high level; involves the licensing of highly qualified and properly licensed aircraft engineers. Licensed Engineers perform, supervise, and certify the airworthiness of aircraft maintenance. The training and licensing of aircraft engineers is supervised by the respective airworthiness authority.

AEI is an initiative from Aviation Engineers, Mechanics, and Technicians from all over the world, and indeed for all Certifying Aircraft Maintenance staff, whether working in Shops, Hangers, Platform Oil Rigs, Dirt strips etc. to protect Aviation Safety, Our profession, Our Status, Our training and Education standards, Our Salaries and other benefits.

We fight for proper working time limitations, good human factors and fair treatment in all aspects of our profession.

We are all volunteers; none of us are paid by AEI. The dues we collect are strictly used for expenses on behalf of AEI’s initiatives. We are dedicated to the Aviation professional with the goal to have all the Aircraft Engineers around the world united in this cause.
