A successful first AMC for AEI

Apr 25 in AEI News

On 17-20 April an AEI team participated in the Aerospace  Maintenance Competition, AMC, in Atlanta Georgia, USA. This was the first time AEI sent a team to the AMC, which is a part of the big exhibition MRO Americas. The response from affiliates wanting members on the team was great. Five different affiliates had team members – ALAEA from Australia, AMFA from USA, NFO from Norway , SFF from Sweden and SITEMA from Portgual.

The AEI team had a tough task, meeting for the first time the day before competition started. Most of the other 83 teams in the competition had been practicing together for at least a week, some much more. The AEI team exceeded expectations finishing well up the list in individual events and in the team competition. Congratulations go to Paal (NFO) and Andreas (SFF) who finished 3rd in one event using augmented reality tooling to plan an avionic modification to an aircraft. The entire team gelled together, competed as a one and had a great time together whether in competition or afterwards, socially. More than one of the team members said “this has been the highlight of my aviation career so far”.

The benefit to AEI entering a team in the AMC was not limited to those who participated, however. It was to increase AEI’s profile. The team shirts were ‘noticed’ by many and referred to as a “human billboard”. They certainly stand out in photos and videos already released as part of the AMC’s publicity. A TV interview on CNN in Portugal featured AEI and SITEMA’s participation in the event, congratulations to Marcio.

Taking part in this event also gave AEI and our American affiliate AMFA executives an opportunity to get together to continue building on future teamwork, which will lead to increased coordination with regard to EASA and FAA interactions.

The benefits of entering the AMC and any future participation will be an agenda item at this year’s Annual Congress on 20 – 22 September in Stavanger, Norway.
